Food Trucks Have Taken Austin by Storm, and Once You Try Them, It's Easy to See Why They Compete with Traditional Restaurants

Food trucks are not considered traditional which makes people skeptical. However, once you take that first bite of food, all your questions and worries fade away. We know what you're thinking, how good can food really be if it's being made in such a small space, especially if that space is a truck? Well, the answer is that it can be absolutely delicious. Some might even say better than any normal restaurant you've ever been to. And, the fun experience of getting there, standing in line, ordering, and then eating outside at the picnic tables offered, makes it an even better time. In Austin, there is no lack of available food trucks for you to try, and from Bar-b-que, Asian, Hawaiian, Italian, desserts, etc., you won't be able to stop going once you go to the first one! Here's a few of our favorites.

Three Little Pigs (1209 Rosewood Ave)

Three Little Pigs has three main dishes that are always offered including: a pork belly slider, asian fried chicken, and bacon-wrapped meatloaf. They also have three daily specials which are constantly changing, but also constantly delicious. They offer a coconut buttermilk pie for dessert, yum! It is considered comfort food, and it is delicious.

The Big Kahuna (1309 W 45th St)

Hawaiian food? In Austin? Yes, please! The Big Kahuna has salads, teriyaki, fish, poke, loco moco, burgers, tacos, fries, and so much more. However, all this food has a Hawaiian twist, making it unlike the typical food you can find in Austin.

Paperboy (1112 E 12th St)

Paperboy features breakfast and lunch, making it unlike the other trucks mentioned. They have every breakfast food from "Steak & Egg" to "Grain & Greens," as well as everything else, including all the sides you could think of, in between. They also have fantastic coffee.

Garbo's, known for their fresh Maine Lobster, has amazing lobster rolls, which are few and far between in Austin, Texas due to the distance. And, if that's not what you're craving, they also feature a burger and a lobster salad. Garbo's proves you don't have to go all the way to Maine to get the amazing lobster you supposedly can only find there.

Austin Pets Alive is a no kill animal shelter which has pioneered many new programs to help save the animals that are blessed to be rescued and taken to their shelter. With many animals in their care at any given time, the workers are kept very busy. Whether you want to donate, go in and help, or foster/adopt a dog, they and their furry friends will greatly appreciate you! If you volunteer at the downtown location, they even let you take the dogs on walks around Town Lake!

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels' mission is to distribute meals and care to seniors and adults with disabilities. Every day Monday-Friday, they deliver 3,000 meals. They serve 5,000 seniors just in Central Texas. This is an incredible organization that offers so many things, including in-home care, pet care, home repair, care for those with Alzheimer's and Dementia, and more. Their focus is on the seniors of Austin, helping them get older surrounded by peace and love. Beautiful Places with Fascinating History That Make for Great Experiences

Georgetown, Texas was established in 1848, proving it has been around for centuries. To this day, beautiful buildings and landmarks stand in remembrance of the past. These have become incredible places for tourists to check out and get a very realistic feel of what Georgetown stands for as well as what it was like previously. Most can be seen around the Georgetown Square, making it very convenient to take a day and go check them out along with everything else The Square has to offer!

San Gabriel Lodge

The process of building the San Gabriel Lodge started back in 1851, only 3 years after Georgetown was established. They host numerous events, like golf tournaments, open car shows, free meals, etc. They meet the second Thursday of every month; there is a meal served at 6 pm and a meeting afterwards at 7 pm. The meeting is a place where you can go to hang out and ask whatever questions you might have about what The Lodge is. They have an events calendar on their website: https://www.sangabriel89.org .

Heritage Oak Tree

Technically located in Cedar Park, Texas, this large oak is 50 feet tall and 80 feet wide. Experts have predicted that this tree is around 400 years old. This massive tree is decorated for Christmas every year with 30,000 lights, showing the love that residents have for their town of Georgetown and its historical landmarks. It has free access and is absolutely breathtaking.

Preservation Georgetown

This organizations has one main goal: to preserve the ancient heritage of Georgetown, Texas. They put on various events, including the Red Poppy Festival (mentioned in previous posts) and the Home Tour, which shows multiple older, historical homes to anyone who wants to see them. This is the place that knows all about Georgetown's past and is consistently seeking to make sure it stays in great condition so it can live on for decades to come.

Veterans Memorial Plaza

This is a landmark that honors veterans who have served in the United States' military. It has 2,500 engraved bricks on 2 different walls, one is is 16 feet and one is 82 feet. There are also 9 granite plates with specific names of veterans who lived in Williamson County who gave their lives in previous wars (for example, WWI, WWII, Korean War, and others). The Plaza has Memorial and Veterans Day events.

The Heat Doesn't Only Affect Us, It Also Hurts Our Grass! Here's a Few Things You Can Do to Make Sure It Looks and Stays Healthy

With scolding temperatures, it can seem difficult to keep any living plant alive, let alone an entire yard. And, when grass covers the majority of the front of our homes, its very important that we take extra precautions to make sure it stays looking good. After researching the topic, here is a list of some tips that will help your yard during this difficult, seemingly hard to manage season.

With extreme temperatures, lawns need more than 1 inch of water per week.

Water deeper, less frequently, and in the morning (to prevent evaporation) as this will help get to the roots of the grass.

Be sure to let your grass grow at least 1-2 inches taller in the summer and mow more frequently. This will help make it more drought resistant.
No matter what shape your grass is in during the summer months, don't fertilize. It will hurt the current grass and the new growth caused by it won't be able to withstand the heat.
In places like Texas, it's important to feed your lawn every 6 to 8 weeks as it will help keep it looking thick and green.
Summer months is the perfect time to pick and get rid of any weeds that are present in your yard.

Summer in Texas Can Get Hot, and What's the Best Way to Cool Down? A Dip In One of These Fun Outdoor Parks!

When it's summertime in Texas and the temperature reaches the 90's or even 100's, it seems like there is no way to get relief. But, in Georgetown, that's not the case as there are multiple places to go for a swim! Whether you bring the whole family or just go for a quick dip, these are are some of the perfect places to cool off.

Blue Hole Park (101 S Rock St)

This is a fantastic place to swim as the water is extremely clear. It's part of the San Gabriel River, and it has wonderful paved trails surrounding it. The water is said to always be a great temperature, and it never gets too chilly. If you don't want to swim, it's a great place to lay out and relax, grill, picnic, walk/run, fish, etc.

Cedar Breaks Park (500 Cedar Breaks)

This is great place to not only swim, but also hike as it has 25 miles of hiking trails that surround Lake Georgetown. There are also areas where you can go cliff jumping into the lake! There are campgrounds if you want to stay overnight, but a small fee applies.

Lake Georgetown (500 Lake Overlook Drive)

This beautiful, clean, blue lake is located right in Georgetown, Texas (hence the name). Lake Georgetown has numerous points to explore for a swim, and Cedar Breaks (mentioned above) is one of them. There are camping grounds, clean bathrooms, and lots of room for hiking, fishing, boating, and most importantly, swimming! There are also trails located around it.

Moving Is Always a Hassle, But Here Are Some Great Tips to Help Make Your Move as Easy as Possible

As realtors, we know the process of buying a house is the most enjoyable part of the moving process. When it comes time to bring out the cardboard boxes, hire a moving company, and move from one place to another, things begin to get much more difficult than generally anticipated. Here is a list of a few simple tips that will help make your move easier and alleviate any initial stress you might be having.

Pick up free boxes from recycling drop-off locations
Get quotes from at least four different moving companies, then pick the best price for the value
Take pictures of what's in each box before moving them
Use color coded sticky-notes on all moving boxes, so you can keep track of what went where
Label the sides of every box, making them readable even when stacked
- These labels should say which room the box should go in to make unpacking that much easier and eliminate having to look for a certain box
Heavy items should go in smaller boxes to prevent box breakage
Use clothing, towels, pillows, and blankets to protect your fragile belongings instead of bubble wrap
Use a box cutter to cut holes in the sides of your boxes to create handles
Rubber bands can be essential in keeping pots and their lids together
Use as many laundry baskets, hampers, suitcases, trash bins, dresser drawers, etc. as you can for packing, so there are less boxes involved in the process
Pack glasses in clean socks for extra padding
Pack plates vertically not horizontally as this will make it more likely that they won't break
When you take apart furniture or technology, keep cords, wires, nails, etc. in a plastic bag, and then label and tape this bag to the item it goes with
Before moving an electronic item, take a picture of the back side of it because it will help make it easier to connect it back together

He also serves sandwiches with these. As far as sides go, he has the classics like potato salad and cole slaw, but apparently his cheesy squash is a classic must-try. Only open 10:30 am to 5 pm Thursday to Sunday, be sure you don't make the drive unless it's open, and, once there, get ready to try the best barbecue Georgetown has to offer.

Hello Sweetie BBQ & More

Hello Sweetie prides itself on being "The Sweet Loving' Taste of Texas BBQ." Open Monday to Saturday 11 am to 8 pm, it has sliced and chopped brisket, pulled pork, chicken, ribs, and sausage. They also have a very large array of sides, from mac n' cheese to candied yams. This delicious soul food will leave you much happier then when you arrived.

Jimmy Vega's Smokehouse

Jimmy Vega's has a restaurant, a food truck, and catering for any event! With brisket, turkey, sausage, baby-back ribs, and smoke roasted bacon, whatever location you get this food at, it will be delicious. They also have sandwiches, sides, desserts, and bowls. They're open Monday through Saturday, but only open for dinner Thursday through Saturday. Be sure to check out their website to see when they'll have live music at their restaurant.

They have live music and sometimes even put on small-scale carnivals, making it great for children. This is a fantastic place to shop local.

Georgetown Farmer's Market (900 N Austin Ave)

This Farmer's Market happens on Thursday's from 2:30-5:30 pm. They have multiple booths which sell things like" shelled pecans, sausage, popcorn, and various produce. They also have some clothing stands. With a little bit of everything, this is not a place you want to miss out on as you'll always find something you do or don't need!

Round Rock Farmer's Market (201 University Blvd)

You can find this market happening every Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm. Ranging from about a dozen to 2 dozen vendors, it's a decent size to accommodate everyone's needs. Like others, they have jewelry and clothes as well as produce, meat, jam, honey, etc. Like the others, it's a perfect place to spend a nice Saturday morning, where you can shop and eat for reasonable prices while spending quality time with your loved ones.

From Wine to Music, Georgetown Offers Numerous Festivals That Keep its Residents Active and Involved

Music on the Square Summer Concert Series

This is a large, reoccurring event that happens every Friday from June through August in the town square! This time frame does not include June 7th, July 5th, and August 2nd. It starts at 6:30 pm and runs until 8:30 pm. It is a perfect place to take some blankets, some packed or to-go food, and have a picnic while listening to beautiful music. They even have designated areas for you to park, so that it doesn't become an unnecessary hassle. In 2019, some artists they will be showcasing are: Wilson String Band, Mike Hamilton, and The Porch Turtles, just to name a few!

Georgetown Wine and Music Festival

This is actually the 12th year that this festival has been put on in Georgetown! Located in the same beautiful town square as mentioned above on September 28th, it runs from noon to 8:30 pm. You have the option to taste delicious wine from the 12 different wineries that will be in attendance. If you purchase a ticket beforehand, it is $25. At the event, it's $35. And, if you wish to be in VIP, its $65.

Red Poppy Festival

The Red Poppy Festival is Georgetown's biggest festival. It occurs every year for an entire weekend in April, and it consists of three days of shopping, eating, live music, games, parades, etc. There will undoubtedly be an event for every member of the family, regardless of their age. · This is Georgetown’s very own rodeo! It happens on September 29th at Windsong Farm.

· Like any rodeo, they feature things like calf roping and barrel racing, and there will even be clowns!

Well, luckily, every restaurant in Georgetown is delicious and combines amazing food with an eclectic, historical ambiance. All types of food are offered, so no matter what you’re craving, Georgetown has it. Here is a list of a few of our favorite restaurants all located in the heart of beautiful Downtown Georgetown.

If you’re looking for Mexican, Blue Corn Harvest Bar and Grill is the place to be. They offer fresh salads, authentic tacos, enchiladas, and seafood dishes, as well as refreshing margaritas. They also have a gluten free menu. Be sure to check out their fantastic brunch on Saturday’s from 10 am to 2 pm and Sunday’s from 9 am to 2 pm.

If you want to have more of a fine dining experience, look no farther than Wildfire . This classy steakhouse has a huge variety of options, including steak, pork, lamb, veal, ostrich, and duck—just to name a few. They have wonderful seafood entrees as well. They also offer some lighter lunch and brunch options, making it a great go-to restaurant for any meal.

If you want to feel the wonderful culture of Georgetown while eating a home-cooked meal, The Monument Café is the place to be. Although they open bright and early at 7 am, be sure to get there before they close at 3 pm. They offer breakfast and lunch. For breakfast, their menu features nearly anything you could think of, like eggs, pancakes, cinnamon rolls, oatmeal, and even a salmon platter. For lunch, they feature soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and entrees (like chicken fried steak). When you’re done eating, be sure to ask about their famous pie for dessert. Yum!

Lastly, since Texas has beautiful weather, it only makes since that meals should be enjoyed in the beauty of the outdoors. This is why, when you want American food, you should dine at George’s on the Town year-round outdoor patio. With events, like a Mother’s Day raffle, always happening, as well as weekly specials, like on Monday’s kids eat free, there is always a reason to go (even if that reason is just outstanding food). And, from prime rib to fish tacos to fire roasted pizza, they really do have it all.

Artificial plants may never die, but having live plants in your home will make your home look and feel better. Nothing brings life into a home better than well-maintained greenery. Most indoor trees are easy to take care of and only need adequate water and a spot where they'll get enough light. You can fill your home with trees or just add enough to a room to beautify empty space. Here are the best indoor plants to add life and coziness to your home.

1. Fiddle Leaf Fig

You probably have a friend who has a Fiddle Leaf Fig tree in their home right now, and for good reason. They only need regular watering and indirect light, and are the perfect size to add a touch of greenery to a room. Be sure not to overwater this tree, as it will drop leaves quickly.

2. Weeping Fig

This tree is one of the most popular indoor trees. It has slightly arching branches and can fill out quite well if taken care of. Like the Fiddle Leaf, it prefers indirect light but it doesn't like cold drafts or hot, dry air. This tree is best kept away from doors and A/C vents. The Weeping Fig is known to shed less than a quarter of its leaves in the fall and sprout them again in the spring, so keep that in mind when buying one.

3. Areca Palm

If you want to add a beachy vibe to your home, this feathery palm will do just that. It thrives in bright spaces and can grow up to 10 inches in a year, reaching 6-7 feet indoors. In the spring and summer, the Areca Palm likes light, constant moisture. During the winter months, it works best to let it dry out a bit between waterings.

4. Rubber Tree

The Rubber Tree is one of the easiest to grow indoors. If you want a darker-colored plant, consider this tree that only requires moderate light. Occasional pruning will help the tree look its best, but be sure to wear gardening gloves to keep the sap off of your fingers.

5. Ponytail Palm

If remembering to water plants isn't your forte, this is the plant for you. The Ponytail Palm stores moisture in its base so it will be just fine if you forget a week or two of watering. The plant has long, strappy leaves that add the perfect touch to a contemporary room. It prefers indirect, bright light and is slow-growing.

6. Lacy Leaf Philodendron

If you're looking for an easy plant that will live long, this is the one for you. With massive glossy leaves, this philodendron can grow up to 6 feet wide, so keep this one in mind if you have a large space to fill. This plant only needs watered when the soil becomes dry and requires moderate light.
